SAMSARA

Illustration

I loosely based this piece off of ideas from Buddhist philosophy combined with an influence of psychedelia. I wanted to create a peaceful, yet powerful depiction of the deer, something that would express a respect to nature, while also emphasizing a sort of exaggerated religious love. The word "Samsara" refers to both the Buddhist cycle of death and rebirth, and also a word meaning family, which I had used in reference to a group of close friends. The deer itself was chosen because of a decorative cardboard deer head that my roommate and I had used as a sort of centerpiece for our room, where we and the group of friends spent most of our time.
